My First Pumpkin

As the title suggests, this is my first ever attempt at carving a pumpkin. We got into the Halloween spirit this year, and decided to all pick up pumpkins to carve something into. I designed something in Flash and then printed it out to use as a pattern on the pumpkin (the handwritten "fire" was just for reference since I wanted to draw that on the pumpkin freehanded). I learned a few things pretty quickly.

1. Exacto style knives are great for tracing out initial lines, but one of the small saws is better for actually cutting out deep chunks.

2. Pie pumpkins have pretty thick meat, which made it more difficult to cut out enough for the light to glow through.

3. Very small details do not work well on your first pumpkin.

Overall, it came out decently. The moon phases are a bit hard to see unless you get at just the right angle for each moon, but I'm pleased with the fire on the back, though.
